For my summer reading project I read Room by Emma Donoghue. This story is different because it is in the viewpoint of a curios five-year-old boy named Jack who lived with his mother called Ma. Jack has never experienced the outside world because his mother was kidnapped when she was younger and had Jack while in the room her kidnapper, Old Nick, has kept her in for the past couple of years. Weeks after Jacks fifth birthday Ma learns that Old Nick has a six month notice and Ma decides its time for her and Jack to leave. Jack was hesitant to leave because room was the only thing he knew about and he didn't want change in there lives but eventually gives in to Ma's pleas of a better life. After making it out they have to deal with hospitals, new people, false accusations, and a new lifestyle.
I think the book is a reflection of the bond between mother and child. This shows in the book because the room represents how close they are when the child is younger and them escaping room is showing the bond being broken while them exploring outside is showing him growing up and exploring new things for himself. Ithink that this book deserves 4 out of 5 because it was kind of quick at times leaving hard to understand what was going on. Overall the book was very interesting with the viewpoint and the way it was written I think i would reccomend this book to other people.
